Zan Yamashita (b. 1970, Osaka) studied modern dance and classical dance before joining Monochrome Circus in Kyoto in 1990. He started choreographing in 1993 with Music at the ALTY Buyoh Festival of Kyoto Prefectural Hall. Since then, he has developed his practice through projects and performances such as the trilogy It is written there (2002) at the Itami Ai Hall, Hyogo, Invisible Man (2004), IT’S JUST ME, COUGHING (2004), Daikouzui (2010) in Yokohama. Yamashita was the recipient of the Kyoto Theatre Award in 2004 and Senior Fellow Grant from the Saison Foundation for 2011 and 2012. Yamashita lives and works in Osaka.  www.zanyamashita.com
