Autumn greetings to you from Spring Workshop. First, we are delighted to report that the many new trees and plants that HK Farm are guiding into a green installation on Spring’s terrace survived this week’s Typhoon 8. The best surprise gift of the storm was, beyond the glory of branches and leaves dancing in the wind, an artist-in-residence dancing in the wind! (Our Spring HongKong FB page has evidence of Ming Wong’s operatic yellow-silk typhoon dance.)
We have a full fall schedule at Spring and hope that you will be able to join us for some of the events below. Please contact us any time with questions or comments, and know that you and your friends and family are always welcome to join us here for a moment of cultural adventure. Hope to see you soon.
Islands Off the Shores of Asia co-presented with Para Site September 27 – December 7
Join us on the evening of September 27, for the opening of Islands off the Shores of Asia, an exhibition co-presented by Spring Workshop and Para Site, based on the ideological, historical, mystical, and fictional interpretations of the remote and largely uninhabited islands claimed by different nations across East Asia. In recent years, these small islets have become the focus of growing nationalism in the region and vehicles through which countries are choosing to project national pride and power.
Curated by Cosmin Costinas and Inti Guerrero, the show features artists including Julieta Aranda (Mexico), Rosa Barba (Italy), Alvaro Barrios (Colombia), James T. Hong (Taiwan), Katsushika Hokusai (Japan), Takiji Kobayashi (Japan), Charles Lim (Singapore), MAP Office (Hong Kong), Pak Sheung Chuen (Hong Kong), Howie Tsui (Hong Kong/Canada), Ming Wong (Singapore) in collaboration with Thomas Tsang/Dehow Projects (USA), and Zheng Guogu (China).
