Galleries should be more like nightclub bathrooms

A bathroom is, amongst other things, a space of equality. Regardless of age, sex, culture, background or status, once within, we are all reduced to strangers.

If happens all the time. On a night out at your favourite club, you find yourself talking to a stranger in the bathroom while re-applying lipstick or washing your hands. It happens all the time, as equals. Using the bathroom both as a stage and a metaphor, unanimity and inclusivity become central ideas.

By recreating your favourite nightclub’s bathroom and presenting it as a microcosm of all bathrooms, or at least the fun ones, the interactive experience becomes about inclusivity — a feeling all too rare in the art scene. Art-Users are left to question whether or not the walls define the space as a gallery.
