Where does hospitality take place? This question is the cornerstone of Des hôtes: a foreigner, a human, an unexpected visitor, the inaugural program of Spring Workshop’s new director Christina Li.  Opening September 19, the exhibition will gradually unfold over three months through an ongoing event program of artist-devised tours, chocolate readings, hypnosis and zoological lectures, where artworks function as prompts for—or evidence of—these gatherings.

The program takes its title from the French word hôte, which strikingly can mean either “host” or “guest”, an ideal starting point for contemplating the blurred territories inherent to the politics of hospitality.

On Sept 19, a first cluster of existing and new artworks by Kasper Bosmans, Toshie Takeuchi and Yu Honglei, will situate the program’s enquiry within the domestic sphere. Other artists to be featured in the ongoing program include Milena BonillaRaimundas Malasauskas,  Luisa Ungar, and Trevor Yeung
