After the opening of Des hôtes: a foreigner, a human, an unexpected visitor on September 19 with the first cluster of works by Kasper Bosmans, Toshie Takeuchi and Yu Honglei on September 19, we welcome you back to Spring Workshop for a series of events that give shape to the developing exhibition.  This Saturday, October 10 Raimundas Malašauskas will present A Post-Hypnosis Session where he will share with us fragments of his project with Marcos Lutyens entitled The Hypnotic Show. Malašauskas will also be speaking at Para Site International Conference 2015 alongside other speakers Magali Arriola, Chitti Kasemkitvatana and Brian Kuan Wood on Tuesday, October 6, at the panel for Exhibitions as autonomous fictional realms. The panel will be moderated by Spring Workshop’s Christina Li

Save the date for a series of events coming up in November. First, Trevor Yeung will be presenting his new performative work Lonesome and George on November 7,  inspired by the story of Lonesome George, who was the last known specimen of a subspecies of Pinta Island tortoise. Next, Milena Bonilla and Luisa Ungar will be hosting a performative gathering and engaging in chocolate scrying sessions on November 20 and 21.  Finally, on November 27 and 28, Ungar will enlist the help of an expert to present research on relationships between public space and animality in her performative lecture Clapping Backwards.

Wu Tsangour current resident, is embarking on the second phase of her research on the life and writings of Chinese revolutionary, feminist and poet Qiu Jin (秋瑾 1875–1907). Come join us for an intimate evening of poetry where Wu invites you to contribute your own interpretation of the poetry of Qiu and Qiu’s companion and calligrapher Wu Zhiying (吳芝瑛, 1867-1936).

The fall program at Spring draws attention to the roles of host and guest. Over the course of three months, the exhibition gradually takes shape through an ongoing event program, artist-devised tours, chocolate readings, post-hypnosis and zoological lectures, where artworks function as prompts for—or evidence of—these gatherings. Traversing the various circumstances where the host-guest status quo is stretched and ruptured, Des hôtes creates a web of relations that magnifies the realities of how we receive and relate to one another.

Mutual Love Society with
Wu Tsang

As part of Wu Tsang’s research residency at Spring Workshop, this public program is based on Wu’s current project researching and interpreting the life and writings of Chinese revolutionary, feminist and poet Qiu Jin (秋瑾 1875–1907) and her intimate friend, the calligrapher Wu Zhiying (吳芝瑛, 1867-1936). Since poetry and wine were central to their relationship, Wu invites interested participants to join her for a night of drinks and appreciation (“mid-translations”) of Qiu Jin and Wu Zhiying’s poetry.
