You have 18 days left to come to Spring to decide whether or not to sign The Social Contract, a participatory artwork that is the final act of the Moderation(s) project in Hong Kong. Presented by Spring and Witte de With, this work by artists A Constructed World was created during their residency at Spring in October and November, and is open to the public until it closes on December 15, 2013. “When the artwork is the contract” by Edmund Lee (48 Hours, SCMP, October 31, 2013) ”Participatory Art: Is the audience free to create?” by Emmy So (Ming Pao Weekly, November 23, 2013) “I will not see the ‘The Social Contract‘ by the collaborative, A Constructed World” by Ruba Katrib (commissioned text) The Social Contract invites the audience to sign a legally-binding Participation and Confidentiality Agreement in order to enter the exhibition space. In doing so, the viewer becomes part of a temporary community of silent participants for a set period of days, agreeing not to disclose what they have seen. Ongoing exhibition hours for The Social Contract: The Social Contract is the third Moderation(s) project to be held at Spring, following the teaser event Guilty Pleasures by Ang Song Ming in August 2013, Incidents of Travel by Latitudes in January 2013, and A Fictional Residency in June 2013. Moderation(s) events at Witte de With have included the performance weekend A Thing At A Time in April 2013 and the conference Stories and Situations in October 2013, and will conclude in May 2014 with a large-scale show The Part In The Story Where A Part Becomes A Part Of Something Else.
