Spring Workshop is delighted to welcome artist Christodoulos Panayiotou to a two-month residency program from March 25 to May 17, 2014. During his residency, Panayiotou will embark on a project in China’s Guangdong province, researching what has become home to the world’s largest concentration of artificial flower factories. Christodoulos has invited fellow artist and occasional collaborator Philip Wiegard to run a workshop for children to create handmade wallpaper in a series of patterns developed by the artist from a historic artisanal technique that requires the small fingers of children.

The research and workshop programmes culminate in an exhibition hosted at Spring from May 15 to July 13, and will feature Panayiotou’s new works against the confrontational backdrop of Wiegard’s wallpaper. Topics such as artisanship and mass production, pre-industrial and globalized production, representation, economy and the history of child labor, all of which are central to the exhibition, will also be explored through talks and discussions held at Spring.  Please save the evening of Saturday, May 3, to come celebrate the artists and to hear about their exhibition and research process.

At the end of May, we will be thrilled to welcome any of you in Europe to the closing act of our beloved Moderation(s) project, a grand exhibition at the Witte de With in Rotterdam curated by Heman Chong and Samuel Saelemakers featuring over forty artists, including ten artists from our Hong Kong family.

Spring is also pleased to host Para Site’s screening program for their Golden Heights Estate exhibition on March 29.  Please see below for further details.

Spring Hosts Para Site

Spring is pleased to host an afternoon screening program for Para Site as part of their Golden Heights Estate exhibition. The programme will be held on March 29, 2014, at Spring and will include “One Way Street on a Turntable” by Anson Mak (Cantonese and English, 74 mins, 2007) and “Spectres” by Sven Augustijnen (French, 104 mins, 2011).*

The programme looks at modes of middle-class aspirations as well as at the projection of colonial shadows in the here and now. The Golden Heights Estate exhibition at Para Site is on view until April 20.

* English subtitles are provided for each film.
