This Sunday is the longest day of the year, and we have an extended cultural plan for you.
At dawn on June 21 around the world, join in Yoko Ono’s Morning Peace 2015, a global sunrise gathering organised by MoMA in partnership with M+ and seven other partner institutions in New York, Tokyo, Sydney, Milan, Istanbul, Moscow and Los Angeles, allowing the celebration to continue for 24 hours following the rising sun. M+ has commissioned Choi Yan Chi and Leung Chi Wo to create works that will take place at dawn.
Although the WKCD event is not open to the public, Yoko has given instructions for creating our own Morning Peace 2015 so that we can all be a part of the midsummer morning’s dream:
On the solstice at sunrise
celebrate mornings of
past, future, and now.
Listen to the world.
Touch each other
when the sun comes up.
– y.o. spring 2015
Then if you are feeling hardcore, come over to Spring after sundown to have a drink while listening to serious musicians from the HKNME’s Modern Academy present new arrangements of the music of American rock icon Frank Zappa (1940-1993). Zappa was highly influenced by Varese, Webern and Stravinsky, and mined the border between rock, sound collage, jazz, orchestral and blues. At Zappa Club Night, your ears will be challenged and delighted by classical musicians making a rumpus on not only on strings, brass and drums, but also on toy piano and dizi.
And in its last few months at Spring, the lush garden of HK Farm is now in full bloom, and open to anyone who wishes to pick a bouquet of basil, mint, rosemary and aloe…or to just frolic in the greenery.
