July 31 | Ang Song Ming: Guilty Pleasures

18/8/12 Moderation(s) kicks off with
Guilty Pleasures
a listening party by Ang Song Ming

Come confess your secret music love to artist Ang Song Ming at the Guilty Pleasures listening party, the inaugural event of the Moderation(s) project by Heman Chong.

Bring your guiltiest sonic indulgence: a song of your choice on iPod/Phone or CD/vinyl if you’re feeling old-school. (And if you don’t have the track, we’ll find it on YouTube…) Tell everyone why listening to it is enjoyable and incriminating, then play it for everyone. At the end of the party, we will vote for the guiltiest pleasure, and the participant who brings that song will be rewarded with a prize. We all stand accused, but will you confess to your sins?

Guilty Pleasures is a performative platform developed by Singaporean artist Ang Song Ming. The artist uses music as his starting point to produce artworks and performances. His works are mainly rule-based compositions, in which materials such as record covers, music posters, school songs, and mix-tapes are each remade with an internal logic or decontextualised with its own narrative.

Guilty Pleasures is a teaser that points toward the January 2013 kick- off of Moderation(s), a year-long multifaceted platform occurring between Witte de With, Rotterdam, and Spring Workshop, Hong Kong. At the core of Moderation(s) stands ‘The Moderator’, incarnated by Singaporean visual artist and writer Heman Chong. Initiated by Witte de With’s Director Defne Ayas and Spring Workshop Founder Mimi Brown, the Moderation(s) project will manifest itself in multiple different iterations throughout 2013.
