Mimi Brown

Mimi Brown founded the initiative Spring Workshop in 2011 with the plan to run for five years. As a forum for experimentation with artists, audiences, residencies and partnerships, Spring Workshop commissioned dozens of new works and publications, hosted 200 public and private events, and welcomed 196 residents and other overnight guests to its beds, sofas and air mattresses. As part of its focus on connecting people and structures in the creative ecosystem, Spring worked in partnership with and in support of 12 organizations, including Asia Art Archive, Para Site, Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art (now Kunstinstituut Melly), Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, M+ Museum, Design Trust, Things that can happen, HK Farm and soundpocket.

The Story Behind Spring

In February 2018, Mimi was invited to Delfina Foundation in London as part of their Collecting As Practice program, and spoke there about the vision behind Spring.

Spring also featured in Museums: Public, Private and the Space In Between, a discussion at Art Basel Hong Kong 2016 moderated by Charles Guarino, which featured Mimi Brown, Johnson Chang Tsong-zung, Heman Chong, Pi Li, and Philip Tinari.

A round-up film Spring Fever: 6 Years in 12 Minutes made by Mimi Brown and Glenn Eugen-Ellingsen with percussion by Shane Aspegren was shown at Spring's farewell evening.
