Quantity Has A Quality In Itself, 2012
Plastic water pistols

There was a time when Hong Kong was the centre of the plastic toy industry. The water pistol was one of its icons, exported around the world bearing the label “Made in Hong Kong”.  Though its lurid colours and poor quality of construction might place it outside the world of art, nothing succeeds like excess. By placing the waterguns in a new context, they develop a new and different appeal.  Like Hong Kong itself, the attraction is the result of its inherent contradictions.

This is the third work in a series of Hong Kong icons being given a new twist. The prior icons addressed were Kowloon Walled City and the red market lantern.
